Chinese Snake Button.
The Button: 29mm turned wooden disk with an image of a snake carved into a camel bone insert. The shank is a drilled hole through the domed back of the wooden disk.
It is from a set of Chinese Zodiac buttons that have been imported into the USA since the 1990s.
2025 is the Chinese Year of the Wood Snake. The Chinese Zodiac is a 12-year cycle that links each year to an animal sign. Each year also corresponds to one of the five basic elements, i.e. metal, wood, water, fire and earth. And there is more but I leave it at that!
It is said that individuals born in the Year of the Wood Snake have keen insight and extraordinary intelligence, and are enigmatic and uncanny.
